Snapleaf for iPhone · iOS 18 or later
Write to tofesoftware@gmail.com and you will get a reply. It helps if you say which iPhone and which iOS version you are on, and what you expected to happen. Never send us a scan — we have no way to look at it and no reason to want it.
Scanning
How do I scan something?
Open Snapleaf, pick Document, ID / Card or Receipt, and point the camera at the page. Snapleaf finds the edges and takes the picture by itself once the document is steady and fully in frame. There is always a shutter button if you would rather do it yourself, and Auto Capture can be switched off in Settings.
It is not detecting the document
Detection needs contrast between the page and what is under it. A white page on a white desk is the hard case: move it onto a darker surface, get the whole document inside the frame, and hold the phone roughly flat above it. If the light is poor, the guidance line will say so — switch the flash to On rather than Auto. You can always capture manually and fix the corners afterwards, which gives the same result.
Can I import a photo or a PDF I already have?
No, and that is deliberate. Snapleaf scans with the camera. Importing existing files is a different product, and adding it would slow down the one job this app does.
Can I add a page to a scan I already finished?
No. A finished scan can be cropped, rotated, filtered, reordered and have pages removed or retaken, but adding a new page means starting a new scan.
Does Snapleaf read the text in my documents?
No. There is no OCR, no text search and no data extraction. It makes a clean picture of the page and turns it into a PDF, JPEG or PNG — nothing else.
Files and storage
Where are my scans kept?
On your iPhone, inside Snapleaf's own storage. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no cloud library and no account. Settings shows how much space the scan library uses.
A scan disappeared
Snapleaf deletes old scans on purpose. Settings → Retention decides when: 7, 30 or 90 days, or Never. The default is 30 days, and each card shows how long it has left. Anything deleted — by you or by the retention rule — sits in Recently Deleted at the bottom of Recent Scans for 7 days, where you can restore it. After those 7 days it is gone permanently and we cannot recover it, because we never had a copy. Set Retention to Never if you want scans to stay until you delete them yourself.
How do I get a scan out of the app?
Open it, tap Export, choose PDF, JPEG or PNG, then share. Save to Files and Save to Photos both live in the share sheet iOS puts up. Exports never carry a watermark, on the free plan or any other.
I changed iPhone and my scans are not there
Snapleaf has no sync, so scans do not travel with your Apple Account. They do come across in an encrypted iPhone backup or a direct device-to-device transfer, because the app's storage is part of the backup. If you moved without one, export what you need before switching next time. A Premium purchase does travel — see Restore Purchases below.
Free scans and Premium
How many free scans are there?
Three completed scans, for the lifetime of the installation. Page count does not matter: a one-page document and a thirty-page document each cost one. A scan you abandon costs nothing.
I paid but the app still says I am on the free plan
Tap Restore Purchases, on the paywall or in Settings → Premium. Make sure the iPhone is signed in to the same Apple Account that made the purchase. If it still does not unlock, write to us with the date of the purchase and we will look into it.
How do I cancel a subscription?
In the iOS Settings app: tap your name → Subscriptions → Snapleaf → Cancel. Deleting the app does not cancel anything. Cancelling stops the next renewal and Premium runs to the end of the period you have paid for.
I want a refund
Refunds are Apple's to give, not ours — request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
What does the Lifetime purchase cover?
The same Premium features as the subscriptions, once, with nothing to renew and nothing to cancel. Restore Purchases brings it back on a new iPhone.
Privacy and security
Does anything leave my phone?
Your scans do not. Page images, PDFs and file names stay on the device and are never uploaded. What does leave is anonymous technical and usage data — which scan mode was chosen, that an export finished, crash diagnostics, device model and app version — none of which can contain a document or a file name. The Privacy Policy lists all of it.
Can I lock the app?
Settings → Security → App Lock uses Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode, with a timeout of your choosing. Snapleaf also covers its own screen when you leave it, so scans do not show up in the app switcher.
Can I password protect an exported PDF?
No. Snapleaf performs no encryption of its own; exported PDFs are handed to the share sheet in the clear. Use the recipient's own secure channel if the document is sensitive.
The app itself
How do I change the language?
Settings → Appearance → Language. Snapleaf is available in English, German, French, Spanish, Japanese and Turkish, and the switch is immediate — no trip to iOS Settings and no relaunch.
Which iPhones does it run on?
Any iPhone on iOS 18 or later, in portrait.
Something is broken
Tell us at tofesoftware@gmail.com: what you did, what happened instead, your iPhone model, your iOS version and the app version from the bottom of Settings. Crash reports reach us automatically and anonymously, but they do not say what you were trying to do — your description is the part we cannot get any other way.
